PREVENTION and INTERVENTION
We have a whole school approach to supporting students at risk. We target prevention programs that are aimed to support students in being prepared for what life has in store for them or their families eg.

- Ardoch Foundation
- Values for Australian Schooling
Talking Tactics
We offer our Years 5 & 6 students and parents a program that supports them in their understanding of the nature of drugs – the harm, addiction and danger. The program is interactive, interesting and helps the students to form responsible, safe attitudes to drugs.
National Safe Schools Framework: Year Prep to 6
A Commonwealth Government Quality Schools Program. We adopted the “Bounce Back” Resiliency Program & Values Education Program as our special project.
We were successful in gaining funds through the Quality Schools Program through the Catholic Education Office Melbourne to coordinate and purchase the program 2004.
“Bounce Back – Resiliency Training Program”
We ensure that the program is run as a whole school approach each year.It aims to ensure that our students are resilient and are able to “bounce back” from situations that are painful.
The “Bounce Back” resiliency program is a planned, sequential program that teaches the students how to become resilient by working through the Core Values that underpin the development of resilience.
The Core Values of the Bounce Back Program:
- show integrity
- be loyal
- be socially “just”
- be friendly
- accept and enjoy difference
- be honest
- give support
- show care
- be positive
- be fair
- be responsible
- be cooperative
Seasons
Students who experience any form of grief have the opportunity to join a group of children to discuss their grief and how to handle the various moods and emotions they may feel – death, divorce, separation…
The program is: a fantastic way of saying “It’s Ok, I’m feeling frightened or annoyed or alone…”. facilitated by trained Staff who coordinate and run the program is absolutely confidential and Parent’s permission is sought in order for their child to participate in the program.
ARDOCH FOUNDATION – LINCS Project
During 2007 and 2008 we will be enlisting the support of the Ardoch Foundation in the LINCS project. Their role will be to advertise for volunteers to work with our students in a range of projects that will support “at risk” students. The volunteers will be specially screened and trained over 10 days to really understand the demands and joys of volunteering. We will be working in partnership with St Augustine’s on this project. The aim of the project is to provide at least 10 volunteers over the next two years.
Values for Australian Schooling
The Commonwealth Government requires all schools to undertake a number of ways to enhance the development and celebration of the values they see as the fundamental values all Australian students should have
- fair go
- responsibility
- care and compassion
- honesty and trustworthiness
- integrity
- respect
- freedom
- understanding, tolerance, inclusion
- doing your best
We development and raise an awareness of these values through our Religious Education Program, Bounce Back Program and NSSF program.
A terrific site to visit that fully explores the values is: www.valueseducation.edu.au
